The Park is located in Tam Nong District, Dong Thap Provice and covers five communes of Tan Cong Sinh, Phu Duc, Phu Tho, Phu Thanh and Phu Hiep and Tram Chim Small Town. If depart from Ho Chi Minh City, you first should take National Highway 1A heading for the southwest as far as 130km, then turn right to national Highway 30 at the intersection An Thanh Trung pass Cao Lanh Town and take the way to Hong Ngu District; as you meet the intersection Thanh Binh at the milestone 22km a signboard shows the direction to the Tram Chim National park, 18km far ahead. The Park is in the lowest area of the Mekong River water logged plain submerged and in the centre of Dong Thap Muoi. The climate is similar to that region close to the equator; it has a great deal of rainfall and sunlight. The Park has six main plant populations: lotus society is a habitat for the sardinella, snails and wild duck; wild rice (Oryza refipogon) society; Nan society; weed society; Mon moc society and melaleuca forest society. The flora includes 130 high-class plant species. The fauna is greatly diversified with 198 wading bird species grouped into 49 families. The most representative ird is the crane with its distinctive red head and bare neck. Estimated plant plankton species are numerous (about 185 species). We should mention in the Park 93 animal plankton species, 90 bottom animals and 55 fish species.
Tram Chim National Park is one of the few natural landscapes found today in Dong Thap Muoi. This park meets the criterion on national ecological parks in terms of terrain, ecological landscape of the Mekong River floodplain and its lower basin. Tram Chim National Park is recognized as Vietnam's first established submerged national park in accordance with the Ramsar Convention. The best time to visit the Tram Chim National Park should be late April or early May, when it is a little bit cold. It's wonderful to get the view of thousands of cranes flying off into the sky in search of flood at down and their returning to the nests as the sun is descending behind the meleleuca forest. Every year many tourists and scientists come to this Park observe the cranes, to investigate the environment,and do their scientific research. Such as admiring visit could be combined with a trip by motorized boats to go through a network of canals to learn the customs and habits of the local residents of Dong Thap Muoi
